Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor, and, as a co-owner with
Linda, the numbers guy in the business. Jim is a Certified Strength
and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the NSCA and as a Mat and Reformer Pilates
instructor through Powerhouse Pilates. His clients range in age
from 11 to 89, and include men and women looking to tone up and
lose weight; high school and college athletes in search of speed,
agility, and quickness (SAQ); younger athletes in need of flexibility,
joint stability, or core strength; and those who recognize the
benefits of exercise but want to do it right under professional
guidance. Jim uses all the equipment and his knowledge of core strength, balance and strength to personalize
every workout to his clients needs and wishes. He developed and
employs a HIIT (high intensity interval training) program designed
to increase fat burn and cardiovascular fitness.
Running, lifting, golf, tennis, skiing, and hiking are among his
current athletic activities while he formerly participated in marathoning
(with a 2:37 to his credit), sailing, multiple track and field
events, basketball (he grew up in Indiana), baseball, volleyball,
and the occasional touch football game. He also enjoys home improvement
projects, cooking, piano, photography, and travel.
Jim graduated from the Purdue University and joined the Air Force
as a pilot, serving a tour in SEA, and currently flies for US Airways
(yes, he is a busy guy). Linda and Jim have been married for 25 years and have one daughter, Shelby, who currently attends Princeton
University and dives on the Ivy League champion swim and dive team.

Linda
is the operations manager at STS and co-owner with husband Jim.
Linda has been a personal trainer since 1996 having focused on
in-home fitness for many years before purchasing STS Fitness and
Health Center with Jim in 2005. She has a Physical Education degree
from Syracuse University and was originally certified by ACE, adding
the prestigious ACSM Health Fitness Specialist when she began seeing
clients with a wide variety of health issues.
Born and raised in Western New York State, she worked for United
Airlines as a flight attendant, and served in ramp, customer service,
and in-flight management positions before resigning from United
to be at home with her daughter, Shelby. Linda also volunteered
in the Junior League of Northern Virginia serving on the board
of directors for in various positions. Learning the fine art of customer service when service was paramount
in the airline industry, Linda applies the same basic principles
in her approach to personal fitness training and ownership of a
fitness studio.
Putting the customer first and treating every client
individually is her trademark. She sees clients from 29 to 70 and
loves the challenge of working with and helping them achieve their
goals. She recently obtained a Moms in Motion pre/post-natal certification
and provides up-to-date, safe, and effective exercise programs
for moms-to-be and new moms. She enjoys working with a wide variety
of clients including older adults with health issues as well as
helping prospective brides get into shape for their wedding day.
Linda really enjoys providing challenging, appropriate, enjoyable,
safe and varied workouts. She says it makes it fun to go to work
everyday. Her hobbies include walking, running, working out, and playing
tennis. Linda also enjoys spending time with her family and friends
and living in Northern Virginia.

Personal
Trainer, certified by ACE, and Medical Exercise Specialist, Dana
has been with STS since its founding in 1996. She has been training
for over 15 years and many of those clients are still working with
her. Her clients vary greatly in ability and age, but they all
have a common commitment to achieve the benefits of exercise. While
Dana is results oriented and takes exercise very seriously, she
enjoys bring fun to her sessions and makes them non-intimidating.
Exercise, she believes, should be an enjoyable part of every day,
not a chore.
Dana bikes, runs, and strength trains almost every day of the
week. She is a graduate of Boston University and is the mother
of three boys (all varsity athletes) and has spent countless hours
on the sidelines of most every sport. Her oldest graduated
from Williams College, where he played football for all 4 years.
Her middle son graduated from William and Mary, and her youngest attends Christopher Newport. Her hobbies include cooking and antiques.

U G U S T I N

Amy has been with STS for over 4 years and working in the fitness
field for over 10 years. She is certified as a Personal Trainer
through ACE and has a degree in Wellness Leadership from the University
of South Florida.
Her career in fitness started in South Florida where she worked
with physical therapy services, personal and group training, and
corporate fitness. Considering her experience and expertise, STS
was fortunate to have the opportunity to employ her shortly after
her move to the Washington area. Amy has been a real asset to STS
and selected as Trainer of the Year in 2004.
Amy’s
personality and demeanor is very upbeat and warm while maintaining
a professional attitude. She is always available to
share her knowledge and learn from others. That attitude makes
her very popular with our STS clientele who are quite often highly
experienced with other personal trainers.
Amy is a mother of two, Aiden is 8 and Shea is 4, and very much
enjoys spending time with the children. She also makes time to
exercise because she knows the positive effect on her health and
well-being. Her personal workout consists of weight training supplemented
with cardiovascular work. She believes that exercise should be
enjoyed and part of our daily lives bringing balance to our life
style.

Roxanne
is certified by ACE as a Personal Trainer and a Group Fitness Instructor
and a Pre/Post Rehabilitation Specialist by the NSPA. She recently
joined STS but has many years of experience in the fitness field.
Her clients are as varied as her experience including men and women
from 18 to 90 of all physical fitness levels. Their wide variety
of goals; power and strength, flexibility, and the ability to do
the activities of daily living are goals that Roxanne has helped
them to meet. Fifteen years of attending jazz technique, ballet,
theatre jazz and flexibility classes have provided her an awareness
of movement and dancer’s center which she applies to her
training techniques.
Roxanne is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick in Canada.
She is married with two children, Michelle, a sophomore at UVA,
and Seann, a senior at McLean High School. Athletic concern include
running, lifting, skating and dance. Travel, musical theater, and
hockey are her favorite interests, Go Caps (she did go to school
in Canada).

Jane has worked in the fitness industry for 19 years and has an impressive number
of certifications including: ACSM-Health & Fitness Specialist,
NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer, ACE-Certified Personal Trainer. Formal health/fitness
education and training includes comprehensive self-study/exams,
attendance at health/fitness conferences and other online course
work. Former fitness responsibilities include aerobics director,
fitness specialist, cycle instructor, and a former business owner.
Jane’s attentive listening, compassionate caring and attention
to details helps her design each client’s workout for their
successful short and long term fitness/health goals Her clients
include women and men, athletes, special populations including
pre/postnatal women, pre/postmenopausal women, and seniors. She
has helped them improve functional skills strength, and endurance;
gain lean muscle, improve bone density, and lose body fat; improve
flexibility, posture and balance; and gain the confidence and self-esteem
that comes with increase energy and stamina.
Jane’s current athletic activities include fitness classes,
weight training, flexibility and balance training, and hiking.
She formerly participated in 5K & 10K running, biathalons,
strength training, outdoor/indoor cycling, and skiing, She enjoys
family and friends, is a member of a contemporary church choir,
performs community/church services, plays guitar, enjoys digital
photography and travel. Jane and her husband own a beach home in
Corolla, NC and enjoy beach activities. Jane is married and has
two sons and two daughters.

Beth is
an ACE certified Personal Trainer and a PHI certified mat and
reformer Pilates Instructor. With 11 years of experience
in the fitness field and 3 years of Pilates, she is capable in
all training areas but specializes in functional training and Pilates.
We have found that the most special thing about Beth is her devotion
to her clients, and vice versa. She is lovely inside and out, following
her philosophy; “Exercise is the prescription for healthy
body and mind.”A Pennsylvania product, she attended Slippery Rock University
as a student of exercise science and moved to the DC area in 2003.
She is continuing her Pilates instruction with the Physical Mind
Institute and expects to receive a certificate sometime later in
2009.
In her
off time, Beth enjoys running, skiing, sewing , reading, and
watching Steelers football (you can take the girl out of PA,
but ……).

A native of Long Island, New York, Lynn is a certified Athletic
Trainer and Pilates Instructor who has worked with athletes at all levels of competition
from your elite athlete to the weekend warrior. She has worked
as a personal trainer for the past 12 years. Lynn has trained with PHI Pilates in both Mat and Reformer protocols and is available for private sessions.
Most of
her clients have been adults with special needs or medical conditions.
Upon graduating from Marietta College in Ohio with a major in Sports
Medicine, Lynn went on to complete a graduate program at George
Washington University in Exercise Science. At George Washington,
Lynn gained some valuable experience working in their Wellness
Resource Center as a health educator.
Lynn has 2 children at home and stays involved in community and
civic affairs, editing a community newsletter, serving in a PTA
presidency, and promoting awareness of child safety with the Safe
Kids Coalition of Fairfax County. Lynn has a very positive attitude,
excellence health knowledge, and an assuring calm manner that helps
her clients make notable progress. She always has her client's
best interest in mind and makes significant effort to help them
enjoy the journey towards improved health and fitness.

B E C K Y R O B E S O N

Becky Joined STS in July 2007 as an ACSM certified personal trainer and is a Yogafit® Level One yoga instructor certification. She is also pursuing ACSM's new industry-first certification for fitness professionals specifically to work with individuals with disabilities.
Becky uses a caring and very individualized approach to working with personal training clients. She designs each session to encompass considerations for the client’s state of fitness “that day” and their previous session’s achievements with attention to maintaining healthy alignment and movement patterns. Becky often employs yoga positions and principles during the warm-up and final stretching of her personal training sessions.
Becky is also a certified project management professional (PMP), and corporate Wellness coordinator. In this role she heads up corporate wellness awareness initiatives and voluntarily provides exercise and stress reduction coaching.
Daughter Jessica and son Jonathan are avid about sports, each in their own way. Jessica is active in martial arts point-fighting as a nationally-ranked competitor as well as a video/website journalist and advocate for women’s competition in the sport. Jonathan is a real estate attorney in Davis, WV but he doesn’t miss many professional sports events on TV and he makes sure his 2-year-old Justin has an enthusiastic model for proper use of any kind of ball.

Jason is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a personal trainer. A recent college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), Jason currently teaches Physical Education at Churchill Road Elementary in McLean. Jason's played midfield for the IUP Lacrosse team during college and participated in basketball, baseball, track & field in high school.
The ACSM certification qualifies him to train clients of all ages and abilities but he would like specialize in training high school athletes. He believes in and trains his clients with functional training style which helps their sport specific movements and needs. Jason trains himself using functional training methods and carries that knowledge to his clients in both sports specific movement patterns and the activities of daily living. He plans on working for and obtaining his NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification within the next year.

F R A N K I E P A R K - S T R Y K E R

Frankie graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Dance and Physical Education and went on to become a professional dancer for the next 15 years. She is certified as a Personal Trainer through the AFAA and trained in Pilates with the Physical Mind Institute. Frankie is a native of New York City and moved to Arlington in 1996 with her husband and two children.
Frankie's dance and Pilates background has taught her to concentrate on core strength as the basis for fitness training. Proper alignment, strong and flexible muscles, and good nutrition equals a healthy person that can participate in everyday life with energy and grace. She believes that working out with a trainer helps keep you motivated and in an enjoyable routine.
When working out on her own, Frankie likes variety. She includes ballet, jazz dancing, Pilates, along with traditional weight training and, of course, walking her dog. We, at STS, were very fortunate that Frankie agreed to work with us and our clients. It has been a good match professionally and we truly enjoy her company.

Cathie has been in the fitness field for over 12 years as a Personal and Group Trainer as well a post rehabilitation specialist in a Winchester are hospital. She is certified by AFAA, the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America in both personal training and group fitness. Cathie graduated from George Mason University with a degree in Political Science and worked with the CIA as an analyst for 10 years.
While she has experience with all ages and abilities, her training focuses on the functional and healthy life style issues. Cathie understands the difficulties of achieving and maintaining a fit and healthy body because she has been there, and back. She had the classic yoyo weight loss and gain throughout her life until she decided to do the hard work of diet and exercise. After a year, she had lost 80 lbs and began teaching exercise to others.
Cathie grew up in Northern Virginia, married 19 years ago, and has three teenage girls. Before college she was a competitive figure skater and still enjoys biking, inline skating, and hiking. Her girls are soccer players with her middle daughter playing in a travel league. Her positive attitude brightens up the whole studio on Saturday morning and various evenings. Her words to live by: "I will try."

STS is very fortunate to have Rashad return after spending the last 4 years in Florida. He was an outstanding trainer at STS for three years and when he responded to our ad for a new trainer we asked his former clients and coworkers about their opinion of Rashad. They universally
praised everything about him from his training techniques to his work ethic.
Rashad graduated with a degree in Recreation and Leisure studies after having played 4 years of NCAA collegiate basketball at Shepherds College in West Virginia. He was cerftified as a personal trainer by the NRPT and has been a trainer for the past 9 years. He worked in a Physical Therapy center while in Florida and learned the techniques required for post-rehabilitation training. He has also coached intermediate level soccer and basketball.
Rashad has trained clients of all ages andl levels of fitness and believes in functional training as well as sports specific type training.

Kim is
a Pilates and Yoga Instructor. She holds certifications in Pilates
Mat, Reformer and Studio Equipment (Powerhouse Pilates,
PhysicalMind, AAAI), Yoga (Yogafit®, Level Two), Resist-a-ball® (CORE,
Pilates and Yoga on the Ball), and Balletone®. She also has
specialized training in Infant and Young Child Yoga and is an Adjunct
Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at
Marymount University. Her Pilates and Yoga expertise incorporates
use of props such as the Swiss ball, flex-bands, resistance ring,
foam roller, Body Bar®, and therapy ball, as well as work on
Pilates studio equipment.
Kim enjoys spending time with her family and a network of wonderful
friends and clients who bring joy to life. Reading and cooking
are her favorite down-time activities.Kim graduated from Vanderbilt University and continued her education
at Catholic University, obtaining a Master's in Engineering Science.
She is the parent of two Arlington athletes who participate in
a range of sports including soccer, swimming, water polo, and Ultimate
Frisbee.
